The name your company should have had from day one.
Mostly .com: English words, coined names, acronyms, numbers and Arabic words in Latin letters, like tajeer (تأجير). Buy from the owner at the listed price, or make an offer.
Why pay for a name instead of registering a new one
The name you’d want is probably registered already.
Ours were registered 15 years ago on average, and 879 of them 20 or more years ago. The only way to get a name like that is to buy it from whoever has it.
A real word is easy to spell after hearing it once.
So you’re not spelling it out on every call, and your ads don’t have to explain where to go.
Renaming later usually costs more than buying now.
By the time you want to switch, the old name is in your logo, your app-store listing, your email addresses and your links.
If you change direction, you can sell it.
A real word or a short .com is a name another company can use, so it can be sold on.
Paul Graham, co-founder of Y Combinator, wrote in 2015 that a startup without the .com of its name “signals weakness”. At the time, only 66% of the startups in Y Combinator’s batch had theirs.
Tell us the name and the most you’d pay. We contact its owner ourselves, without saying who the buyer is, and if they agree the sale goes through escrow like any other.
Not sure which name fits?
Tell us what you’re building. We’ll say which of our names suits it, and which one we’d steer you away from.
More than one name?
Buying for clients, or naming a few companies a year? Write to us with your shortlist.
Buy at the listed price or make an offer. Most names take offers. We answer serious inquiries within two business days. Offers well below the listed price get no reply; you can send an improved offer any time. Names listed at $2,000 or more can also be paid monthly over 12 months, with Escrow.com’s fees included in the monthly figure.
Pay through Escrow.com. The fee is already in the price, and your money stays with them, not with us, until the name is in your account.
If your account is at the same registrar as the name, we push it to you. Otherwise we send you the transfer code and you pull the name into your registrar. If your registrar charges for the transfer, that fee is yours.
On average the name is in your account 24 hours after escrow receives your payment. Escrow then releases the money to us.
Getting a name we don’t own
Tell us the name you want.
We find out who owns it.
We agree with you on the most you’ll pay before we contact anyone.
We approach the owner and negotiate without saying who you are.
If they agree, you pay through escrow and the name is transferred to you, the same as a listed name.
Search for the word you want. If it’s not here, we can try to get it for you.
