Frequently asked questions

How do I buy a domain listed on Netaq?

Every domain page has two buttons, Buy for the listed price and Make an offer. Both send us a short form. Buy means you take the listed price: we open an Escrow.com transaction and email you the invitation. Make an offer starts a conversation. We answer serious inquiries within two business days. Offers well below the listed price get no reply; you can send an improved offer any time.

Is the payment safe?

Every transaction completes through an independent escrow service, normally Escrow.com. Your money is held by the escrow provider, not by us, and is released only after you confirm you control the domain. We do not accept wire transfers direct to us, and we never ask for payment outside escrow.

Which payment methods can I use?

Escrow.com accepts a bank wire for any amount. For payments up to $5,000 it may also offer card or PayPal, depending on the transaction. You choose the method when you pay Escrow.com; you never pay us directly.

Who pays the escrow and transfer fees?

The Escrow.com fee is included in the listed price, so the number you see is the number you pay into escrow. Registrar transfer fees, where a registrar charges one, are the buyer’s. On lease-to-own the buyer pays all Escrow.com fees, already included in the monthly figure.

What about VAT and other taxes?

Prices are in US dollars and exclude VAT and any other tax, duty or levy. Whether tax applies depends on where you are and what you are buying for, and it is your responsibility. If you need an invoice in a particular form, tell us before escrow opens.

How long does the transfer take?

Twenty-four hours on average from the moment escrow has secured the funds. Some registrars take longer, and we stay with it until the name is under your control.

What if the transfer doesn’t complete?

You get every dollar back. If the name does not reach your account, the Escrow.com transaction is cancelled and your payment returned. Escrow.com deducts its fee from refunds, and we reimburse that fee, so you end up where you started.

Do I need technical knowledge to receive a name?

No. If you are at the same registrar, the name simply appears in your account. If not, we send you a transfer code and walk you through entering it at your registrar. Pointing the name at your website afterwards is a setting your registrar or web host can change for you.

Is there a lock period after the transfer?

Often, yes, and it is worth knowing before you plan a launch. ICANN applies a 60-day lock after a change of registrant, and most registrars apply a similar hold after an inbound transfer. You control and can use the domain immediately; what the lock delays is moving it again. If your timing depends on this, say so early and we will structure the transfer around it.

Are prices negotiable?

Most listings accept offers alongside the listed price. We answer serious inquiries within two business days. Offers well below the listed price get no reply; you can send an improved offer any time.

What makes an offer worth answering?

A number in the range of the listed price, plus what you intend to build and when you need it. An offer with those attached gets a considered reply and often a conversation. We answer serious inquiries within two business days. Offers well below the listed price get no reply; you can send an improved offer any time.

Can I buy anonymously?

Yes. Many buyers prefer their interest not be visible while they are still deciding, and a competitor learning your naming plans early is a real cost. Escrow requires identity verification for both sides, but nothing about your enquiry is published, and we do not disclose who asked about what.

Can I buy several names together?

Yes. List the names in one message; we agree the price for the set and open a single Escrow.com transaction for all of them.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, on names listed at $2,000 or more: 12 monthly payments, with no interest. Escrow.com keeps the name until the last payment, then transfers it to you. The buyer pays Escrow.com's fees for the plan, and the monthly figure on the listing already includes them. Use Pay monthly on the listing to start. The Purchase Terms set out what happens if a payment is late.

Can you get me a domain that is not in your portfolio?

Yes. We research who owns it, agree a plan and a ceiling with you, and approach the owner without revealing who is asking. An owner who knows a funded company wants their domain prices accordingly, which is the whole reason the approach is made without naming you. Our fee is a success fee only: it is agreed in writing before anyone is approached, and there is no fee if the name does not close. Use the brief form on the Brokerage page to start.

Does buying a domain give me trademark rights?

No. Owning a domain and owning a trademark are separate things, and neither creates the other. A name may resemble something a third party claims rights in, in your market or another. Before you buy, satisfy yourself that your intended use is lawful where you plan to do business, and take your own legal advice. We will tell you what we know about a name’s history; we cannot clear it for you.

What do you know about a name’s history?

For each listing we show the year it was first registered, and a large part of this portfolio was registered more than twenty years ago. If you want to check archived use or past ownership independently before committing, ask and we will point you at the public records rather than summarise them for you.

I’ve seen one of these names on another site. Who owns it?

We do. Some of our names are also listed on other sales platforms at the same price. Buying here goes straight to the owner, through Escrow.com, with the fee already in the price.
